Bakat Interact 2011

On the 26th July 2011, from 2PM to 5PM, the Yayasan Sabah Tun Raffae Auditorium was filled with a mass of people from five different schools namely SM La Salle, Sabah College, SM All Saints, SMK Lok Yuk and last but not least, SMK St. Francis Convent. This combined school event was hosted by Sabah College.

At 10AM, performers, technicians, MCs and such arrived at the hall to receive a short briefing about the flow of the programme from the director in-charge, Rotarian Rizal bin Banjar and also from the president of the Lok Yuk Interact club, Joyce Fong, who was in charge of the floor-management.

Also, within 2 hours, a dry-run took place to let the performers have a feel of the stage. After that, everyone was asked to leave the hall for security purposes. Later, more interactors started to fill the corridors of Yayasan Sabah. Some had set up a stall, some became the security, some became runners for the performers. In one word, it was hectic.

But after that, performances were about to start. The hall was welcomed by the booming voices of the two handsome emcees for the afternoon, Valentine Joibi and Izzaldin Yahya. The two La Sallians were welcoming performer by performer on to the stage, as well as introduced them a little bit to the excited, roaring crowd.

The first school to perform was SMK All Saints. Their performance was a very fun one where after a mellow performance, the curtains opened to show a band ready to rock the stage. Among the songs they performed were Bruno Mars' the lazy song and Aerosmith's I don't Wanna Miss A Thing. There were a few technical difficulties, but they pulled through very well.

Next to perform were schools from SMK Lok Yuk, SMK La Salle and our school. Our school was the fourth school to perform. We did three numbers whereby two of them were of the rap genre. This was a choice selected by the thorough Mrs. Wee Lian Lui.

Finally, the last school to perform under singing was Sabah College. Their band performed a few songs from the band Muse. After their performance, the programme went on a half an hour break.

Each school had done their best despite the technological difficulties.

As we resumed the programme, there was a special dance performance from Maktab National. Only after that, it was back to the competition!

The Convent girls performed their best, though there was lack of support from the auditorium. Nevertheless, everyone enjoyed the performance and after all 5 schools have finished their performance, we moved onto the next anticipating programme on the list: ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE WINNER!

the whole group comes up to show support.

As the crowd suspected, the winner was none other than the more-than-deserving La Sallian boys! For both singing and dancing categories, the LSians conquered both! Congratulations to you guys :)

As for second placing, the award goes to Lok Yuk under the singing category whereas third place goes to Maktab Sabah!

Under the dancing category, second place goes to All Saints while third place, by the Maktab Sabahans again :)

With this, I end this post and extend (the club's) felicitations to those who earned their trophies :)
