Avoid Blindness Campaign

On the 6th of April 2013, our school’s interact club were invited to Sipitang for the ‘Avoid Blindness Campaign’ which was organized by the Rotary Club as a charity event. The campaign started at 8.00 a.m and ended at 3.00 p.m.
At 6.00 a.m, me and 13 other interactors gathered at Damai Community Hall to wait for the bus. The rotarians were also there. The bus came at 6.40 and we helped the Rotarians to carry a few boxes of food and drinks into the bus. As we entered the bus, Dr. Ravi, one of the Rotarians and also a doctor from SMC, took our attendance. Right after he finished, the bus moved at 6.47 a.m and we set off to Sipitang.
On our way to our destination, we had nasi lemak and some buns for our breakfast and of course a bottle of water. All of that were provided by the rotarians. It took about 3 hours to reach Sipitang. Roughly 15 minutes before we reached Sipitang, one of the Rotarians gave us a little talk about the rotarians and rotaracts.
It rained heavily when we reached Sipitang at 9.15 a.m. When we got down the bus, we were welcomed by the president of the Rotary Club. We went in the hall and a lot of people were already there. Most of them are the old people. We were divided into groups and all of us were assigned to do different tasks. Two groups of four were divided again. Our group was asked to find the running numbers for the Red section while the other group had the Blue section. We also gave out snacks and buns to the people while they are waiting.
At 12.53 p.m,  we had our lunch. There’s a room where all the Rotarians, Rotaractors, Interactors, doctors from Sabah Medical Centre and also Queen Elizabeth Hospital had their lunch. They had variety choices of food like KFC, chicken rice and roti canai. After all of us took our lunch, we continued our tasks. At 2.24 p.m, Dr. Ravi asked us to stop giving numbers to the people who had just came and wanted to register as it is almost time for the campaign to finish and we estimated there were about 680 people who came to the campaign.
We cleaned up the hall at 3.25 p.m. We picked up rubbish on the floor, swept the floor and also rearranged the chairs and put it at the side of the hall. It took us about 20 minutes to clean the hall. At 3.42, we took a few group photos with all the volunteers, Rotarians and Rotaractors. Lastly, we had certificate giving ceremony by Dr. Ravi to the Rotarians.
We got in the bus at 4.15 and the Rotarians brought us to eat at this restaurant at Beaufort called Brunei Satay House. They had choices of food there such as fried mee, fried rice and satays. Most of us had satays and ABC as our drinks. We finished eating around 5.00 p.m and got in the bus at 5.10 p.m and we were already on our way back to KK.
On the way back, we sang a few songs with the Rotarians. We reached KK at 7.25p.m and even though all of us are fatigued, we really had fun helping the people and of course we get to spend time and bond with each other. It was a good experience for all of us. :)
