RYLA KK 2016

What is RYLA you ask? Well, let me break it down for you... R stands for Rotary, Y stands for Youth, L stands for Leadership and A stands for Awards. Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is a program coordinated by rotary clubs around the globe. Each year, thousands of young people participate in this program. Young people ages 13-30 are sponsored by Rotary Clubs to attend the event run by the club's district committee. It is known for it's leadership development program.

From the 31st of May - 2nd of June, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Kota Kinabalu was held at Montfort Youth Leadership Centre (St. Paul Chapel), Kinarut. 7 of our interactors participated in this camp; Aleya, Dana, Daphne, Evane, Khairunnisa, Yoshini and myself (Lola).

As one of the participants, I believe I speak for most of us when I say it is definitely one eye-opening, knowledgeable yet enjoyable camp. Throughout the camp, participants have gained leadership and communication skills as well as boosting our team-building by undergoing hands-on activities such as presentations on current world affairs, workshops and loads of motivational talks.

Not only that, RYLA has also increased our social skills by putting us out there on the line to socialize with students with different backgrounds from different schools, districts and even different states! We have also gained new close friends throughout the camp who we still keep in touch with till today! By the end of the camp, we all left the centre as much mature, open-minded young adults.

A thousand thank yous to Rotary Club for giving us the opportunity to join such a beneficial program πŸ‘πŸ’™
