Social Service 2018

Every year our Interact Club hosts a Social Service trip in order to give back to the community. This year, our Social Service Director, Arianne The, has organised this year’s trip to be at KK Wetlands to attend a program and enhancing our knowledge about the beautiful mangrove trees and the wildlife that live there. All the members of our Interact Club were included and also not forgetting to mention, five members of the All Saint Interact Club also shared this experience with us. The event was held on the 29th July 2018 from 7:00 am to 12:30pm.

The two programs that were held include, the tour around KK Wetlands where we got to see all the different kind of creatures that live among the waters and roots of the trees. We walked along the rickety bridge to hear snaps and bubbling the water. We were separated into 3 groups among three tour guides which were students from UMS and where also doing their research there.

After the tour, we proceeded to have our breakfast break before we continued on to the main event of this program, which is to fill bags with soil for the plantation of more Mangrove trees. All of us had to put on wet boots and go through the waters that we went past to get to the digging site. The journey there was bumpy and slippery, making some us scream from slipping in the mud holes, but luckily no one got injured.

Our teacher advisors, Teacher Wee and Teacher Siska, as well as Teacher Chin and Sho, who volunteered to attend this trip.

To close this day of many events, certificates of participation was presented to all the members, including the All Saints interactors. Through this trip, we were able to see how much effort it takes into maintaining such a key park of our state's flora, the Mangrove trees and how unique it it. This has taught many of the interactors about how important it was to have teamwork among our members, this is evident especially when they realise that when going through the muddy path, we need to hold on to each other in order to keep everyone safe. We are ever grateful to be able to go through this journey that has not only gave us an opportunity to give back to the community but also take in an experience that we can learn from.
