INTERNATIONAL UNDERSTANDING DAY 2017: HOW DID WE DO? (PART II)
It's finally here! The most anticipated annual Interact Club event. I.U. Day 2017!
International Understanding Day is an event where each Interact Club will represent one deliberately-chosen country and present their cultures in different categories. Every school will be competing in 5 categories, which are Best Stall, Best Information, Best Food, Best Dance and Best Costume. Finally, not forgetting the overall champion.
This year's I.U. Day Bazaar was held on the 9th of April, 2017, at Suria Sabah Shopping Mall. Participating schools were the usual 5 main schools alongside with 3 invited schools which were SM Stella Marris, KK High School and SMK Perempuan Likas.
This year, we present to you, our culture laden and magnificent selected country, MEXICO and it has led us to defending our champion title for the first year! (hence, if you have read I.U. Day 2016 post, you'll get the title 😉) SM Lok Yuk represented Samoa while SM La Salle went for Nigeria. Sabah College showcasted India and All Saints portrayed Colombia. Stella Marris went ahead with El Salvador, KK High School did Peru and SMK Perempuan Likas chose Egypt.
The busy event commenced with the judges and rotarians visiting each school's booth. This is where all schools will be judged for the Best Stall, Best Information and Best Food category. The judges and rotarians were all welcomed to each stall in the most unique and original way with all the members lined up outside the booth. For us, we greeted them with our beating of drum, complemented with maracas and the proud cheering of 'Viva la Mexico', meaning 'Long Live Mexico'.
Next up, the models and dancers. The Best Costume category was up next and Best Dance category was in line as the final category to be judged. Models went up on stage to model their looks and costume according to the norm of their own country. Every school also had representatives to narrate and state the information regarding each costume and look. Dancers then presented jaw-dropping dances that were one of a kind and as usual, in relevance with the cultural dances of their selected countries. Crowds were screaming out of support and each floor was packed with the public checking out on the event!
As the moment has arrived, everyone's hearts were skipping a beat, maybe even two, waiting and hoping for the best results. Decisions had been made that our school won first place in Best Stall and Best Info category, 1st runner up in Best Costume category and 2nd runner up for Best Dance! And *drum rolls* the results had once again, concluded us as the reigning OVERALL CHAMPION!
Second placing went to SM All Saints and the third was to SM Lok Yuk. Congratulations to them!:)
I.U. Day also marks the end of all members' worn-out days and time sacrificing. Our results definitely reflected on the efforts each member poured out. Congratulations to other schools too! We've made it to the end of this tough tough competition and I am a hundred percent sure, we all had learnt a ton of lessons, gain experiences and made imperishable memories!
So how did we do for this year? You say it this time ;)
Good luck for IU Day 2018. Let's hope there'll be Part 3 to this series, shall we?
