KK Wetland Centre Clean-Up & Visit to the USS Mustin Ship

2009 was a great year for the club and even during the school holidays, we had some activities to fill our free time ;)

On the 24th of November 2009, some of our Interactors who weren't on vacation were lucky enough to meet some of the US Marines who stopped by Malaysia for a quick visit and also to help out our community. Together with the Interactors from SM la Salle and SM All Saints, we volunteered to pay a visit to the KK Wetland Centre. Among the activities we did were clean up the surroundings, prepare the soil for the mangrove seedlings, and repaint the walls of the building (at least that was done by the marines). After that, we managed to visit the ship itself! And believe me, it was a sight to behold! :) We were told that the particular ship we were on was specialised in AMUNITIONS! (O.O)

Throughout the whole trip, we managed to interact with the captain and crew of the ship, see the weapons and explore the ins and outs of the ship upclose as well as stand mere feet away from a real life missile!!! Nonetheless, I think all of us would agree that the most daunting experience was to see one of the crew fully equipped with a bulletproof vest and a HUGE rifle!

Overall, it was an interesting learning experience and at the end of the day, we were totally certified to operate the ship… just kidding! :D
