Career Talk
On the 27th of February 2010, Rotaract Club of Kota Kinabalu organised a Career Talk which was held in Sabah Credit Corporation, Donggongon for all Interactors consisting of 5 different schools which were SM Lok Yuk, SM All Saints, SM Maktab Sabah, SM La Salle & SM St. Francis Convent. The interactors came right on time around 8.30am. The morning started with a brief exercise of Tai Chi and singing which were led by the staff of Sabah Credit Corporation for us to experience their daily routine in the morning.
The first talk was by Datuk Vincent Pung explaining about his years of experience of being an accountant which was inspiring for all of us, the second one was by Datuk Tengku Adlin. A talk about tourism by Sabah Tourism was also very interesting because it included pictures and videos which enabled us to witness how outstanding Sabah is. Next, was Mr. Raymond who presented the career of a banker. Then, we were given a short break for lunch - we had KFC burgers, drinks, and apples.
The day continued with the next talk on civil, electrical and electronic engineering by Mr. Warrence Chan who also happens to be the Immediate Past President of RCKK as well as a talk on architecture (private practice) by Mr Cheong K.A . As for the Information Technology (ICT) sector by Mr Christoper, we were taken way back when ICT started and got to see different types of technologies that were invented before the 20th century. Dr. Ravi's talk was also inspiring to all of us whereby he stressed on the importance of communication skills in becoming a doctor. The Interactors also got to know a little bit about the characteristics of becoming a lawyer. Ms. Jasmine Leong explained how to apply to universities as well as the qualifications needed.
The talk ended about 2pm in the afternoon, but before we all left we took a group photo with everybody as a remembrance. We were indeed thankful to the Rotaract Club for organising a career talk for the interactors, we had surely learned a lot and it helped us youth to open up our minds towards the many options we have in the future.
