EYE SCREENING & LITERACY PROGRAMME
On the 31st July 2010, the Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu has organised a charity trip to Kg. Kokol, Menggatal for an Eye Screening and Literacy Programme. The aim of this trip is to help children of Kg Kokol to learn and improve their English skills. Our school Interact members in collaboration with interactors from All Saints and exchange students from China and Greece who represented UMS, participated in this heart - changing event.
At 8 am in the morning, we gathered in front of SM All Saints and proceed with our journey. We admit that we were very excited to begin our day with charity work. After a journey for an hour, we finally arrived at our destination. We were definitely surprised and touched by the very warm welcome from the teachers and students of Sekolah Kebangsaan Kg. Kokol, Menggatal. We never expected any of those things to happen and we were really stunned. They also welcome us with the " Gongs " and " Kompang" as well as a Magunantip Dance.
Before we went for the trip, we were asked to donate books for the students thre and the books donated are for them to make a small library in their school. When we settled down, we were have to split into few groups. Some have to handle the eye screening test and some have to handle the children with the English.
During the time of our departure, all of us heart - broken as we have made a good connection with those wonderful children. After that, we were treated lunch at a resort. An hour later, we have to make a move.
This programme made us learned to appreacite all the things we have here in city and make use of it wisely but not to misuse it because for others, it might mean a lot for them.
The Rotary Club has done a priceless contribution not only to the children of Sekolah Kebangsaan Kg Kokol but also to us, the interactors. We sincerely hope there will be more programme like this and more people to join as it was an invaluable experience.
