SOCIAL SERVICE II : MANGROVE CONSERVATION EVENT 🌳❤
For the 2nd and final social service of this year, we and 5 other schools were invited to join the RCKK x OCBC Bank (in honor of their 90th anniversary) Mangrove Conservation Event held in KK Wetland, Likas on the 3rd of December.
Mangroves are a tree or shrub which grows in tidal, chiefly tropical, coastal swamps, having numerous tangled roots that grow above ground. They are rare ecosystems that contribute to the wellbeing, food security and protection of coastal communities worldwide. They act as a form of natural coastal defense against storm surges, tsunamis, rising sea levels and erosion. Their soils are highly effective carbon sinks, sequestering vast amounts of carbon.
However, mangroves are disappearing three to five times faster than overall global forest losses, which is why we as a community need to work together to conserve our mangroves.
